Webby's
Swirled Mosaic Tag Tutorial
This tutorial was created with Paint Shop Pro 8,
but the steps can be adapted to all versions of PSP.
By special request, I am writing this tutorial.
Thanks to the awesome tubing of a friend, I am writing this tut using work tubed
by him. I am still kind of new at writing tutorials, but I hope you enjoy making this tag!
Items needed for this tut:
colorful tube of your
choice
Okay, I am going to use the following picture (it is
360 x 351),
is is by one of my favorite artists,
Kayomi, and the title
of the painting is
"Cat
Nap":

1. Click SHIFT + D to make a duplicate copy of your
tube. Close your original.
2. Your tube should have plenty of extra
space around it. The one I am working with doesn't have enough, so we need
to resize the canvas. Click on IMAGE > CANVAS SIZE. The Canvas Size
dialog box will appear, and looks like this:
Make your canvas size approximately 100 pixels
wider in both height and width. I rounded mine to a new size of 450 x 450,
centering my tube as shown above.
3. Click SHIFT + D to make a duplicate copy of your
tube again. You now have 2 copies, and you closed your original earlier.
5. Click OK.
You should now have a tube that looks something like this:
6. Click ADJUST > SHARPNESS > SHARPEN, your image will now look like this:
The difference is subtle, but look closely at the 2 pictures, you can clearly see the 2nd picture looks much better!
7.
Click SHIFT + D to make a duplicate copy of your
tube again.
8. Click on EFFECTS > TEXTURE EFFECTS >
MOSAIC - ANTIQUE. A box will appear that allows you to select your
settings. These are the settings that I am using:
9. Click on OK.
10. You should have 3 different tubes open
now:
The "unaltered" tube
The Mosaic tube
The Polar Coordinates tube
11. Select your mosaic tube. Click on EDIT > COPY.
12. Select your Polar Coordinates tube, and
select EDIT > PASTE AS A NEW LAYER. It should look something like this:
13. Your mosaic layer now needs to be reduced in size so both layers are
somewhat visible. I would suggest either 85% or 75% reduction. Make
sure the mosaic layer is the layer selected. Click EDIT > RESIZE and then
the resize options dialog box will appear:
15. Click
ADJUST > SHARPNESS > SHARPEN, your image will now look like this:
16.
Your mosaic layer should be moved down to
the bottom layer. Click on LAYERS > ARRANGE > MOVE DOWN. Mine now
looks like this:
17. Okay, now I don't quite like WHERE these two layers
are positioned, so I am going to move one (or even both) of them to get a look I
like. Just use your "mover" tool,
19. Click on EDIT > PASTE AS A NEW LAYER.
It should look something like this:
20. This new layer also needs to be reduced
in size. Now since the previous layer I added was done at 85%, I am going
to try this one at 75%.
Click EDIT > RESIZE and then the resize options dialog box will appear:
21.
Click ADJUST > SHARPNESS > SHARPEN, your image will now look like this:
22.
Now, you need to reposition this layer like
you did the previous layer. Just play with it a little to find where you
want this layer. Mine looks like this now:
24. After applying the drop shadow to all 3 layers, my image looks like
this:
I would love to see your results! Or if ya have a question or comment about this tut, please e-mail me at this link:
