Sorting Your PSP Files, Webbers Style - TUBES So your files are a mess? Can find anything? I know that all too well! BEFORE ya start reading this tut. I will tell ya, that it is alot of work to keep your files in order, but if ya continue to do it, ya can find anything anytime ya want it. But until you get your mess
organized, it will be ALOT OF WORK! Okay you have been warned! <giggles>
NOTE: Please
be advised that I do NOT use the picture tube tool. My filing system was
designed so that I can locate tubes easily and quickly. The way in which I
use all my tubes is "PASTE AS NEW LAYER". Please do not confuse
this with the ability to use the picture tube tool with my tube filing system.
As you can see by the file names (the ones that actually have file names!), there are all types of tubes. And some are in Adobe format (I hate this!). Since I still use PSP 5, and when I share I know others use
PSP 6 too, I convert my tubes so they are accessible in all versions of PSP. But not yet. Select PROPERTIES (at the bottom of the list). Another pop up will appear and will look like this:
See in the middle where is says ATTRIBUTES? and the READ ONLY box is checked?? UNCHECK it! Then click on APPLY then OK. Now all of the files that were READ ONLY are not anymore! We are now ready to do our batch conversion! Open PSP. Click on FILE > BATCH CONVERSION.
A pop up window will appear and will look like this:
If you have NOT unzipped all the files in your sort folder, make sure that the "Files of Type" is listed as Paint Shop Pro Image (like shown above). If however all your zips have been unzipped and deleted, this can say ALL FILES. In the "Output settings" make sure that you have this set for PAINT SHOP PR IMAGE (as shown above). And the final setting is where you want the converted tubes to go, it SHOULD be a DIFFERENT folder from the one they are in at this moment. Since it is unlikely all the tubes you are converting are of the same type (anime, cats, dogs,
Native American, sexy, etc....), that is how the "sort 2" folder came to be! You can't see it totally, but the output folder for this screen shot is my "sort 2" folder in tubes. Once you have your settings click on SELECT ALL and the batch conversion will begin, you will see a screen that looks like this:
When the conversion process is done click OK. FYI: This screen showed I had 180 files to convert, and when it was completed, it showed that 179 files were converted. That is NORMAL! Now you need to go to the SORT folder (where you started!) and delete those files since once they were converted they went into SORT 2 (or wherever you put them!). If you click on EDIT > SELECT ALL (in windows explorer), it will tell you how many files you are about to delete. For me, it says 179 this time, which is the same number of files I converted! Then click On DELETE (which is the icon with the red X).
Okay, you can now start selecting tubes to move into different folders. To select a group of tubes in a row click the first on, and then then last one while holding down the shift key. To select multiple tubes that are NOT in a row, click on the first tube, and then click on additional tubes by holding the CTRL key. I have gone through my tubes and selected bunnies, the ones I am going to move are highlighted. Move your cursor over one of the
highlighted tubes and right click, the following pop-up menu will appear:
Select MOVE TO as the option and another pop-up menu will appear allowing you to select the folder (or create a new folder). The menu will look like this:
Select the folder you want to move the items you highlighted to (make sure you are in the right
category, don't wanna move tubes to your graphics/clipart folder!). Select the folder (or click on the folder with the asterisk to create a new folder), and then click OK. The item you selected have been MOVED into the folder you just selected. Continue with this process until your SORT 2 folder is empty or you are tired of sorting!
